Euclid Group’s HR Business Partner Scoops Outstanding Student Award at CIPD People Management Awards
Applauded by judges as an excellent ambassador for the HR profession and for demonstrating the ability to manage a complex project working across vast geographical and cultural boundaries, Euclid Group’s HR Business Partner, Jodie Gilbert, was delighted to scoop the Michael Kelly Outstanding Student Award in the ‘advanced’ category at the 2017 CIPD People Management Awards.
The consolidation of three sister companies to form the construction chemicals organisation, Euclid Group, was the inspiration behind Jodie Gilbert’s master’s thesis on cultural integration.
By examining the key features of organizational culture across the three businesses – spread over 55 countries – as well as the synergies and tensions between them, Jodie was able to make recommendations on how cultural alignment could be achieved for the Group through human resource management.
This included creating a framework and toolkit to assist with the post-integration process alongside a 12-month roadmap on how to connect employees to the ‘journey’, complete with principles and costs to guarantee the deliverables required for such a high-value transformation.
The judges felt her work was a great example of evidence-based HR, featuring robust research that thoroughly assessed the company’s needs, secured buy-in from senior stakeholders and delivered the same message and cultural experience across a vast geographical spread.
Euclid Group unites several of the world’s leading construction chemicals brands in business together to offer a truly global service to customers. Its combined portfolio includes: concrete admixtures; chemical fibers; construction products; mining & tunnelling products; specialty polymer flooring; grouts & levelling compounds; parking deck coatings; and decorative concrete.
Not only impressing the judges, the project impressed senior executives at Euclid Group so much that Jodie has recently transferred to Cleveland, Ohio, to drive the Euclid Group’s 12-month integration effort.
Other winners unveiled at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, at a ceremony overseen by comedian and TV presenter Rory Bremner, included fashion brand SuperGroup (best L&D initiative – private sector) – which rolled out hugely effective gamified learning to its young and digital-savvy workforce – as well as the Ministry of Justice’s Civil Service HR Casework team (best coaching and mentoring initiative), Skanska (best diversity and inclusion initiative) and AstraZeneca (best international HR initiative).
Peter Cheese, CIPD chief executive, said: “Last night’s awards enabled us to celebrate the fantastic work of the very best of the HR and L&D profession. Those who won demonstrated people management and development initiatives that were not only original and creative, but also made a real difference to people at work and very importantly to positive business outcomes.”
